The 25th Summernats festival reved up things for Canberra today as they held their parade of show cars down of the the regions most famous streets - Northbourne Avenue.
Event co-owner Andy Lopez told press it will showcase the best Summernats has to offer, and will be family friendly, which made the crew in my family a lot more keen.
"People are going to get see something really terrific...two hundred cars in convoy, beautifully managed, well presented, a complete range of all the types of vehicles that Summernats has to offer and I think pretty much the community is excited about it."
A convoy of 200 of the premiere street machines cruised between Exhibition Park and London Circuit from midday, travelling at a safe 40 kilometres per hour.
Sections of the Federal Highway and Northbourne Avenue were closed off, as other motorists had to navigate around the festivities and were encouraged to avoid the area.
History was made today as it was the first time in almost 20 years that the parade has been held.
ACT police restricted the original Summernats Supercruise to Exhibition Park after a series of serious incidents in the 1990s.
Superintendent Lesa Gale and her team oversaw the police escort for today's Citycruise.
Police encouraged crowds to check out the parade from the old service station at Exhibition Park as it was a safe place and had a good line of sight.
Fans also gathered in the CBD, where the witnessed the Cruise go around London Circuit.
A no alcohol zone was in place along many streets, including Northbourne Avenue, Aspinall Street and Lonsdale Street.
The Citycruise was the first official event of the festival which ends on Sunday evening.
It's not too late to enjoy Summernats as it runs through to the 8th, and you don't have to be a rev head to enjoy it. Get your set of wheels and join in the action, and please drive safely.
