The Star puts Sheraton Grand Mirage on the market for $200 million
Embattled Australian casino operator The Star is pulling out all the stops in its equity drive, now listing its Sheraton Grand Mirage resort on the Gold Coast for $200 million, according to reports.
The beachfront property is 50 percent controlled by The Star, alongside Hong Kong Stock Exchange-listed Far East Consortium and Chow Tai Fook – each controlling 25 percent.
Both Hong Kong-based companies also hold the same percentage in the $3.6 billion Queens Wharf casino and resort project in Brisbane.
The joint venture between the three companies acquired the Sheraton in early 2017 for some 140 million, with The Star contributing $40 million of equity.
Now the 295-room hotel is up for grabs, with The Star initially showing signs of its disposal in February after it announced it was anticipating losses of up to $1.11 billion due to legal cases for anti-money laundering breaches and potential changes to the New South Wales tax regime.
The group is undergoing a massive equity drive to raise some $545 million, including investment from its Sheraton and Queens Wharf projects.

All Elite Wrestling star Kenny Omega is open to joining WWE, according to reports.
The former AEW world champion is set to see his contract with the company expire soon.
Reports suggest his deal was due to be up in January, but due to missing several months through injury, it has seemingly been extended until November.
There have been several suggestions that a deal could be done between WWE and Omega, 39, though a potential agreement is still a way away.
According to Wade Keller of PWTorch, the current AEW trios champion would be open to doing business when his deal with AEW is up.
'I haven't independently verified rumours of WWE being interested in Omega, I have confirmed they're aware of Omega's open-mindedness to come to WWE', Keller said.
'That's what I've been told, that he's open-minded to landing in WWE before his career is over. The attitude is not "I love AEW, I'm gonna stay here forever".
'That is not apparently the belief within WWE. They don't believe that's Kenny's mindset at this point.'
Omega signed with AEW in February 2019, a month after the promotion launched, and is an executive vice president of the company alongside team-mates The Young Bucks.
One of the company's most popular wrestlers, Omega has also featured for New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Ring of Honor among other promotions throughout his career.
In December 2020 he became AEW world champion and held the belt until November 2021.
In 2021, he said on current head of WWE creative Triple H: 'I think HHH is still being one of the boys for the better part of his career.
'I’m sure a big part of how he runs his business, WWE, NXT and all those things he has a finger in, I really do think he does it for the sake of fans as well.'
If he were to join WWE, it's likely his team-mates The Young Bucks would also move with him.
Cody Rhodes, who is also a former executive vice president of AEW, made the move to WWE last year.

The world's financial markets and most companies/firms and people looking more closely at their budget and spend resulted in quite the perfect storm.. Decades ago I heard an example based on tech/software giant, Microsoft (which these days has a stake in LinkedIn) - the "cocaine model" i.e: if you want the really good stuff you have to pay! Get it! There can be free subscriptions as well as paid subscriptions. Then there's licenses - be it 1, 2, 3 or lifetime deals, and so it goes on. Streaming entertainment has also adopted some of the principles, be it Binge, Netflix or YouTube (with or without ads), and so it goes on. Games: X-Box and/or PlayStation did and I understand still are doing some subscription based deals. Salesforce, the CRM system has a subscription/license type offering. At this moment we've got a free of charge news service, with selective promos and advertising online, plus we also help promote others goods and services, including press release services, streaming media services, event promotions, MBS, I.T, branded merch for various companies and much more. It's all about sustainable business models.
