G'day punters, gamers, casino and gambling millionaires and billionaires, legal eagles, politicians...one and all. Today we explore the fantastic array of entertainment available at Australian land based casinos. The offerings have never been better, as the Crown Casino VS Star City war continues, with all and sundry looking to secure some of the hottest talent and acts on the planet, all in an attempt to deliver a total entertainment experience, which could make you feel better about trying your luck in the casino! Media Man and Gambling911 travel across the great nation of Australia to fill you in on the greatest entertainment in casinos from the land down under. It's Thunder Down Under...
Australia is home to some of the world's great casinos, hotels and resorts.
While the land down under has over a dozen land based casinos, there's only three that both rate highly and grab the majority of headlines on a global stage. Enter James Packer's Crown Casino in Melbourne, Tabcorp's Star City in 'Sin City' Sydney, and Jupiters Hotel & Casino on the Gold Coast aka Surfers' Paradise.
Media Man and Gambling911 take our eye in the sky look at the landscape of the Aussie land based casino sector and bring you up to speed with what's news down under...
Readers will be aware that there's a "casino war" in the land of kangaroos, koalas and goannas at the moment. You would have to be Blind Freddy not to know about the ultra competitive showdown (and hunt for whales and dolphins) between Packer's Crown Casino down south in Melbourne and Tabcorp's Star City in 'Sin City' Sydney.
Crown Casino and Star City are following the global trend, largely driven forward from Las Vegas and Macau, of offering a total entertainment experience... not just gambling... you know, slots, poker, table games and the like. Whales aka high-rollers, have also demanded the changing face of the sector. Don't get us wrong, the gambling aspect remains vital to the business model and to the punters, but for a variety of reasons Australian casino kings have employed a more holistic models. The reasons include being more government friendly, legal eagle elements and complimenting the larger casino, entertainment and lifestyle.
Some of the ramped up services and offerings as part of the industry development include but are not limited to:
Entertainment complex upgrades (including securing more world class acts, more often, to attract the crowds and keep all clients and business partners happy)
Hotel suite refurbishments
Private gambling room upgrades for high rolling VIP's
Sports bar upgrades
Enhanced security - technology and more staff
Gulf Stream Jets aka Lear Jets for international high rollers in a hurry and who demand and casino afford the best

DOCTOR ZHIVAGO
From 11 February 2011
In this explosive new musical romance based on Boris Pasternak's 20th century Russian masterpiece, Doctor Yurii Zhivago is a man divided against himself: on the one hand a dedicated husband, father and healer; on the other a poet, dreamer and sensualist.
Reflecting his struggle, the musical swirls around him in a panoramic portrait of a nation in upheaval and tells a story at once epic and personal, funny and breathtaking, impetuously romantic and bitingly political. The action sweeps breathlessly from the final glory days of Czarist Russia through the chaos and upheaval of the Russian Revolution into an unprecedented tyranny under a heartless new political regime. Through all these volcanic upheavals three passionate men, the ardent young Doctor Zhivago, the fiery political radical Pasha Antipov and the cunning bourgeois magistrate Viktor Komarovsky compete for the love of one woman, the alluring and enigmatic Lara......as if they are fighting for the soul of Russia itself. With its lush, unforgettable melodies, suspenseful story and the internationally renowned Anthony Warlow in the title role, the premiere of Doctor Zhivago introduces the world to a new musical in grand tradition.

Australian Rock Legend Rick Springfield To Play FireLake Grand Casino, Oklahoma - 26th March
Aussie music legend Rick Springfield will playing at FireLake Grand Casino on Saturday, March 26th. He's got 17 Top 40 hits, sold out concert tours across the globe and more. Rick Springfield has had a full life. Growing up as the son of arm dad, his family shifted many times to bases in Australia and Great Britain. He discovered that piano at age 9, then the guitar at 13, the voice followed, as did the success. Springfield's music career kicked off when he dropped out of school and joined the Rock House as a singer and guitarist. After a name change to MPD, Ltd, the band toured Vietnam entertaining the troops. When he returned to Australia, he formed a band and later joined Zoot which became a popular Australian band. After Zoot folded, Rick started a solo career and recorded 'Speak to the Sky' which went to #1 in Australia. He moved to the USA and got things to the next level. Springfield signed with Capitol Records and got some TV time, including with American Bandstand. The teen girls loved him, but the dollars didn't always follow the love. TV's General Hospital soap gave him some financial stability where he played Dr. Noah Drake. It was around this time Springfield recorded "Jessie's Girl" and it got to #1 spot on the Billboard. If you have a chance to enjoy Rick's gift at the casino, we recommend you take it. Entertainment industry commentators say Rick is truly one of the greats. Rick got his fair share of luck over the years, so might you, if you get to FireLake on the 26th.

Gambling Company Intralot Unfair Treatment In Australia?, by Greg Tingle - 8th March 2011
G'day punters, gamers, casino and gambling millionaires and billionaires, legal eagles, law enforcement officials, politicians...one and all. Today Intralot is back in the news and it seems apparent that they did indeed get a raw deal by the Australian government (they wouldn't be the only ones). Media Man and Gambling911 with the the legal fun and games and much more on Intralot down under...
Gambling giant Intralot Australia, a spring off from the Greek powerhouse, has noted the findings of the independent Gambling Licence Review Panel which confirms that Intralot was unaware of the existence of the Tattersall’s Dedicated Area when it was awarded its Victoria’s Category 2 Lotteries Licence. The Gambling Licencing Review Panel, chaired by Ron Merkel QC, found that Intralot Australia was "unequally" treated during the process that resulted in the awarding of this Licence. Intralot Australia Acting CEO Leo Watling said that Mr Merkel’s findings confirmed Intralot’s view that it has suffered from prejudicial behavior from the previous Government and its agencies. "Mr Merkel’s findings are an important acknowledgement of the damage that has been caused by the previous Government’s flawed licencing process. "While Tattersall’s was given preferential treatment with their licence Intralot has suffered and continues to suffer great reputational and financial damage because of this error. "Sadly, this finding does not bring an immediate remedy for a flaw that remains entrenched in the Tattersall’s licence nor does it bring incremental sales to the newsagents who have been disadvantaged by the grossly unfair situation. "We have been trading with our hands tied behind our back from day one. No-one likes the Tattersall’s Dedicated Area except for Tattersall’s. It is anti competitive and a serious impediment to sales. "We trust that the Minister for Gaming, Michael O’Brien, who recognised this issue some time ago, can accelerate a solution as quickly as possible." Mr Watling said. Intralot reserves its rights in terms of a legal remedy to the creation and existence of the Dedicated Area.
Intralot Australia Gets Raw Deal Down Under Says Legal Eagle; My Big Fat Greek Disaster Down Under Without A Wedding...
Big news... not, not a wedding, nor a funeral, but close... sort of. Gaming whale Intralot was treated unfairly during the bidding process for Victoria's public lottery licences, an independent review has found. Intralot had advised that during the process of tender, negotiations et al circa 2008 it was not informed about the all important licence amendments made in competitor Tattersall's favour to provide exclusive sales areas. The "exclusive sales areas" are where much of the trouble lays in the matter. Both public lottery licences had been prohibited by law from entering into exclusive arrangements for the distribution of lottery products but Tattersall's had sought an amendment to the situation. A panel reviewing the state's lottery licences discovered Intralot should have been advised of the former government's willingness to negotiate on conditions relating to dedicated areas, a report put forward on Thursday said. It in fact found the unequal treatment was not intentional.
Victorian Gaming Minister Michael O'Brien advised many lottery agents had expressed concern that retail restrictions required by Tattersall's have hampered their ability to market Intralot products on their own premises. "We believe competition in the lottery market will ultimately benefit lottery players, agents and taxpayers. We want to ensure the community can have confidence in the integrity of lottery games and the gambling industry in Victoria." The government says it will consult with lottery licensees and agents before responding to the report's findings.
A Media Man spokesperson said "This Intralot Australia legal situation is just the most recent of a long list of ongoing legal situations between gambling and gaming companies and governments, be it in Australia and abroad. Many of our associates have known for some time that the Australian government needs to improve its legal I's and T's in relation to gambling and gambling law. They keep getting it wrong and need to catch up to the rest of the world. Be it lottery, land based or igaming, the Australian government desperately needs to adapt to the year 2011. The international gaming and gambling community is watching the outcome of the Australian government response, as well as that of the panel in Victoria on this one. May the best and fairest win".
Intralot: Australian Big Fat Aussie Greek Mistake Update...
Greek lottery systems provider Intralot was treated unfairly during a bid for public lottery licences in Australia, according to an independent review released Thursday. Intralot had complained that during the negotiation process in 2008 for licences offered in the Australian state of Victoria it was not informed about licence amendments made in rival Tattersall's favour to provide exclusive sales areas. A panel reviewing the state's lottery licences found Intralot should have been advised of the former government's willingness to negotiate on conditions relating to dedicated areas, a report tabled by the Gambling Licencing Review Panel said. The Victorian government said that it will consult with lottery licensees and agents before responding to the report's findings. Intralot Australia CEO Leo Watling said the findings confirm the company’s view "that it has suffered from prejudicial behavior from the previous government and its agencies. The findings are an important acknowledgement of the damage that has been caused by the previous government's flawed licencing process," he added in a statement. Athens-based Intralot, which has a foothold in more than 50 countries, said it "reserves its rights in terms of a legal remedy," without offering any more details. Shares in Intralot, which has a market capitalization of 392.6 million euros, were gaining 2.49 percent to 2.47 euros on the Athens bourse in late trade on Friday, versus broader market gains of 0.17%. Experts expect either a sharp rise or fall in share prices, depending upon review findings in the coming days, along with some influence from news media reports.
Stay tuned daily for more on the Australian gambling and casino wars.
Merkel, O’Brien, Gillard, Packer, Murdoch (both of you sirs), Branson, and Turnbull - you're throw of the dice! What would have Spiros Arion 'The Golden Greek' or goddess Isis done in the situation? We may never know, but legal eagles will leak us soon, so stay tuned.

Packer 50% Owned Betfair Signs Australian Super Rugby...
James Packer 50% owned betting exchange Betfair, has signed up to sponsor Super Rugby in Australia for the next 2 years. The biz deal took affect last weekend and includes in-stadium advertising, grass signage at the five Australian Super Rugby grounds and advertising across Super Rugby's digital platform. Betfair spokesperson Hugh Taggart said the sponsorship does not cover grounds in New Zealand and South Africa. "But the addition of a new franchise and the change to tournament fixtures means there are more local ‘derbies’ and subsequently bigger Australian audiences both at ground and through television coverage," he said. Taggart declined to comment on the value of the sponsorship but said: "Suffice to say we believe it represents good value. Super Rugby remains a pretty clear sponsorship space while League is cluttered with corporate bookmakers. The deal should give us excellent exposure to a growing audience." Betfair has been one of the Australian Rugby Union's approved betting operators since 2008, but the deal marks the company's first major move into rugby. Betfair recently ran a major marketing campaign during the 2010/2011 Ashes cricket series. “It’s Betfair’s first foray into rugby union and this new partnership will help broaden our awareness nationally, but crucially in the key NSW and QLD markets,” Andrew Twaits, Betfair’s chief executive officer, said in a statement.
Sin City Sydney's Star City Gets Food, Fashion And Imagine Makeover...
Fancy a bit of duck lamb or money brains? Look no further than the restaurants and eateries at Tabcorp owned Star City. It's no surprise that the Chinese - Aussies are big frequenters (and gamblers) at the casino, so enter the dragon so to speak - the Golden Century would love to host you, casino whale, dolphin or otherwise! Yep, everyday punters are welcome too, and the chefs are understood to be world class too. This is towards 5 star, and you don't even have to like gambling to enjoy the cuisine. The largely American directors at Star City are positive they are starting to bridge the gap between themselves at Crown Casino in Melbourne, both in numbers, imagine and positive headlines, but we will judge them when the next financial reports come out, and no, we haven't purchased Tabcorp shares yet either. Spies tell us to be watching out for big name fashion labels, plus the A-list celeb crown too. Star City MD Sid Vaikunta thinks things are on track for Star to be thought as a total entertainment destination, not just a place to try lady luck. We also learn that a 5-star boutique hotel is in the works, 16-room spa;, events - entertainment centre, a few dozen restaurants, drinking bars aka "watering holes", coffee shops, nightclub, and who can forget the new slots and tables and cafes, and upgraded entertainment and gaming facilities. The revamp is on track to be completed by December. Won't be long now punters. Chief executive of casinos, Larry Mullin, advised there was already strong interest in the redevelopment both in Australia and abroad. He smells whales and dolphin (but not on the menu), just the style of gamblers and hot shot travel who is prepared to pay for the best. Everyday punters are also very welcome, so get yourself there, then check out Crown Casino in Melbourne, maybe a few other gambling dens, and tell us your findings.
Crown Casino Welcomes Hugh Jackman: Aussie 'This Is Your Life'...
Australian actor and performer, Hugh Jackman, is quite a fan of James Packer's Crown Casino in Melbourne. He likes 'This Is Your Life' too, which just happens to take place there these days. We learned that he surprised his wife on Australian TV for 'This Is Your Life'...and went on to reveal she turned down a date with Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones so she could get cosy with the 'Our Hugh', star of 'Wolverine'. He chatted about how he and Deborra-Lee Furness met as co-stars on the Aussie mini series Corelli in 1995 for the Network Nine show. Jackman, 42, kept the secret well guarded until he and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness, 55, had journeyed to Melbourne ahead of his appearance on Oprah Winfrey's show in December. He said 'It was great to meet and work with her. She was famous and had been in America and it was my first role. I got into a car and she was going to drive. But she took off her sunglasses and seatbelt, jumped up on the seat and said, "Hi, I'm Deborra-Lee". I was very impressed. I thought, "I like this woman". He said he didn’t talk to her because he fancied her, but later invited her to a dinner party because he wanted to speak to her. At the dinner party Deborra-Lee's mobile rang and it turned out to be a girlfriend saying she was with Mick Jagger and they were in a car out front.
Hugh said: "I'm a huge Rolling Stones fan, so I thought she would have to go.
But then she said to her friend, You tell Mick Jagger, I'm having dinner with Hugh Jackman. We got together soon afterwards.". Jackman and his wife are not big gamblers, but understand its all an entertainment experience. Jackman features in the Marvel slot games, Wolverine and X-Man, which strangely are not as popular as Thor, Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk, which are found at PartyGaming's PartyCasino and a few others, as you can see when browsing thru the Media Man website portal. Celebrities and gaming continue to mix, online and at events.
Aussie NRL Players Sick Of Mongrel "Fans" Who Hassle Them When They Relax In Public...
Their stance comes after Wests Tigers superstar Benji Marshall was allegedly racially abused by a reveller at The Rocks on Saturday morning. An incensed Marshall punched the man and has been charged by police. "This is unfortunate all-round," Wests Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys said. "It is a sad state of affairs when anyone with a profile can't go out without being repeatedly targeted and tormented. "Benji is shaken by this. He is disappointed with it all." Players claim it is only a minority that attack them. Leading player manager Steve Gillis described this minority as "yobbos". "The players have to be street smart," Gillis said. "They carry profiles and must be able to manage that or they run the risk of running into some hiccups when they're out, especially late at night. "There is a skill to avoid confrontation but there are people out there who, when intoxicated, can make life extremely difficult. They are yobbos, people who when intoxicated cross the boundaries. It's sad. "There is a fear that players may, in the end, say sorry and not sign an autograph or pose for a photo. "They could end up saying, 'I'm sorry, I can't help you, you'll have to leave me alone'." Marshall's teammate Chris Lawrence said most fans were polite and considerate. "It's only the minority," Lawrence said. "Most people when you go out just want a chat and to wish you well for the season or the next game. "We enjoy that. It's the minority who want to pick a fight or prove something to their mates and do something in front of their mates. "That's when things don't turn out the best. "It becomes hard because Benji has such a high profile. But all the boys are behind Benji and we will support him." RLPA chief executive David Garnsey also questioned the antics of drunken fans who annoy high-profile footballers. "What kind of a society do we live in when someone like Benji Marshall can't walk down the street and buy some food," Garnsey said. "He didn't deserve it. "I would hate to think that one day we might have to incubate the players or have no-go zones. I'm fed-up with it. "These people may not even be rugby league fans. And if they are, they are the fans we don't want in the game. "It would be terrible if the players had their freedom curtailed. And I would hate to have restrictions put on them."
Aussie Anti Poker MP Promises To Further Probe Online Gambling Landscape...
The so called "Independent" MP Andrew Wilkie is ramping up his eagle eye on online gambling, telling numerous Australian press here is strong evidence it is a significant problem and only likely to worsen. Wilkie will request the parliamentary committee to reform the "Wild West" industry, according to the report, after Australians dropped around $1 billion in online gambling last year. While betting on sports and horse racing is legal in Australia, several other online gaming websites and web portals exist, despite some being illegal. People who play the online games are not breaking the law, according to Fairfax Media, a situation Wilkie desires to reverse. "We need to get in here and nip it in the bud, and avoid getting into the situation we have with poker machines, where it's so big and entrenched," Wilkie said. Fairfax Media and competitor, News Limited, already carry a number of wagering options on their website network, mixing in news, pr, sports betting and games (play for free or play for money), a formula other media companies such as Media Man have also followed with significant success.
A Media Man spokesperson said "Offering a wide array of promotions, brands, content, even games, is a popular formula for many Australian media companies in the current landscape. Fairfax Media, News Limited, as well as our Australian and international arm, also offer a range of games, some of which can be played for free or for money. News Limited, Fairfax, nor ourselves, are casinos or sports betting agencies, but we can offer the reader access via b2b agreements. Many legal eagles in Australia believe that Australian laws pertaining to the internet, b2b, affiliates, content sharing and the like are not up to speed with the rest of the world. We believe that the Liberal Party is better equipped to embrace b2b commerce better than the Australian Labour party, but it would be great to see us proved wrong. News Limited, Fairfax Media and Media Man cover over a dozen different business sectors, and gaming, igaming and sports betting are just a couple of them. Betting enjoys a cross over with sport, and gaming also enjoys a cross over with movies themes, be it Marvel Entertainment or Paramount Pictures branded games. Poker is also popular, with big brands such as PartyGaming offering satellites on a yearly basis to the world famous Aussie Millions conducted at James Packer's Crown Casino. iGaming is a big part of the future of b2b commerce this year, and will continue to be. Legal eagles will be busy as the battle for hearts and minds continues, and that's no bluff".

Aussie MP Seeks iGaming Crackdown; Australia In Top 10 Gambling Nations, by Greg Tingle - 7th March 2011
G'day punters, gamers, legal eagles, law enforcement officials, politicians...one and all. Today a couple more members of Australian Parliament are seeking a crackdown on igaming aka online gambling in Australia. In the meantime, Australia maintains its top 10 status as a gambling nation, thought to be currently about lucky #7 on the list. Media Man and Gambling911 with this crackdown report...
Australia Remains In World's Top 10 Gambling Nations In 2011...
The dinkim Aussies are known for lots of things on the world stage... great beaches, women, beers, great boobs, wildlife, champion athletes, and now, gambling nuts. Yep, some of the world's most passionate punters still call Australia home.
Would you believe there's 1 one armed bandit for 110 people down under. That puts Aussie Land squarely in the top 10 gambling havens, right up there with Monaco (famous for James Bond casino antics) and Macau (hello our friends at James Packer's City of Dreams).
The Aussies have the 8th highest total number of gambling machines, with roughly 187,000 in pubs and clubs aka "pokie palaces", industry stats tell a story of.
Anti-gambling activists aka "gambling haters" and "casino haters" are strongly encouraging the Gillard - ALP Government to adopt a "stop, revive, survive" style approach...similar to the safe driving campaign, in order to assist poker machine reform and introduce a mandatory cut-off period to help people break their habits... if they have a habit, if you follow our lead.
"The player logs in with his or her personal code and the machine stops after, for example, two hours' playing," researcher Charlotte Fabiansson said in research provided to the Government by the Social Justice and Social Change Research Group at the University of Western Sydney.
"The player can choose to take a 15 or 30 minutes, break or take out eventual winnings and leave the machine."
Under Dr Fabiansson's prop, the pokie used by the players would be untouched during their "revive" breaks.
The player should not be able switch to a new machine without the revive break," she said.
Numbers coming from the manufactures of gaming machines show Australia ranks 7th on an worldwide list of pokies per head with one machine for every 110 people.
First place goes to "lucky winner" Monaco, which has one machine for every 16 people. Japan and the Netherlands Antilles were also in the top 10. Countries giving Australia a run for its money include New Zealand and Britain, who rates closer to one machine for every 300 people.
Don't ask us if sheep also play in New Zealand... we don't want to know, but an insider joked "some Kiwi poker machine players are a bit like sheep, even if they don't have wool and have 2 legs instead of 4". The smart ass was having a sledge, and was not at all serious.
Australia is currently 7th we understand for the total number of gaming machines with approx 187,000, but insiders say we are quickly rose to lucky 7th position in bragging rights.
Britain has roughly 217,000 machines but, but has triple the population, has far fewer per capita.
Both the current and former Australian Prime Ministers Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd, are not big fans of poker machines, with Rudd appearing to have the most hate towards the one armed bandits.
Gillard have recently felt the wrath of the powerful Australian clubs and pubs associations like Clubs Australia and ClubsNSW. Gillards's ALP is up against strong competition from the Aussie states and territories, and the mighty gaming industry.
Last year the Australian Productivity Commission proposed cutting cash payments down to $250 from the present $2000 limit, banning ATM's from all venues and increasing the present shutdown limit for poker machines from 6 hours per day in yet another attempt to fix "problem gambling".
Some of Australia's major banks and financial institutions have also jumped on board the campaign against many of the proposed changes.
They in fact wrote to the Federal Government a few times to state that a plan to limit withdrawal amounts and move ATMs further away from gaming areas would not work.
Anti-pokies campaigner and so called independent Senator Nick Xenophon called on the Federal Government to bypass the states and take action on its own.
"It shouldn't be underestimated what a powerful vested interest the pokie machine industry is from clubs to casinos to manufacturers. Of course they are squealing," he said.
Senator Xenophon said the Federal Government should use its taxation powers to make pokie machines unprofitable.
"It's a question of political will. I believe Kevin Rudd was genuine when he said he hated the pokies and the damage they did to families. But how will those strong words translate into action? He has talked the talk and now he has to walk the walk," Senator Xenophon said. Mr X was talking of Rudd, and he's been just as vocal this year calling on Julia Gillard to step up. Xenophon always has something to say, which is good, as it helps fill up news reports on the touchy subject of gambling.
Mr X has also recently brought more attention to online gambling, which has taken off in a big way down under, with slots and sports betting leading the charge. Media Man data shows that Hollywood and entertainment themed games from the likes of Marvel Entertainment, Paramount Pictures and FremantleMedia are some of the most popular. Even companies behind the the image of Frank Sinatra, Rambo (StudioCanal) and Tarzan (Edgar Rice Burroughs) have jumped on the gambling bandwagon, with more tipped to follow.
Recently James Packer associated media company, Ten Network Holdings, let it be known they see a place for more gambling programming, and leaks say to expect to see a gambling show or channel. Packer recently stepped down from the Ten board, but gaming and igaming remains on their agenda. Insiders say it will be much bigger than 'The Poker Star' which was fronted by former Australian poker world champion (WSOP) Joe Hachem, who these days is one of the faces of Crown Casino, the other being mate, Shane Warnie, never short of a headline or spinning yarn. Network Ten has also recently launched Channel 'Eleven' and insiders say the channel is just begging for gambling shows, adding to the promos currently being seen. Warnie and Hachem also get regular features in the Australian newspapers about their passion for poker and gambling, and both are keen to please their mate and associate, James Packer, the king of Australian gambling, who is now once again a major force in the Australian media landscape. The UK's Virgin king, Richard Branson, has also been watching the Australian gambling and gaming space closely, and has met with 'Our James' at least one time. Branson is understood to not want to do anything in Australia until "grey areas" are cleared up, while Warne's and Hachem's brands appear full speed ahead, as are PartyGaming including its World Poker Tour, PartyPoker and branded games, with more overseas firms wanting to make more of a mark down under including Paddy Power, William Hill Online, PKR and Playtech. PartyGaming's World Poker Tour continues to be broadcast into Australia via Foxtel - Fox Sports and Fox8 we understand, with Foxtel interested to broadcast more poker and casino themed content down under, pushed along by online promotions and b2b agreements, ready for the next range of interactive television developments, (which will have to be signed off by Senator Stephen Conroy and friends, we suspect). The ACMA is also closely monitoring the situation.
A Media Man spokesperson said "Many of the UK and Gibraltar based igaming and gaming companies see Australia and Tasmania are maybe just the next Gibraltar and Alderney, two regions known to be gambling friendly." They went on to clarify "Well, maybe if or when the Australian Liberal Party win the next election. I'm tipping its when, not if".
Media Man conducted a recent street research on the subject of gambling and the results showed that most Australian adults of legal age up do enjoy a punt. Only 1 person in a batch of 10 found gambling "evil", with everyone else saying it was a personal choice. 60% of those who took the survey likened the Australian government's war on pub pokies as to their battle with the Australian mining companies (which many feel left the Australian government with egg on its face).
Stay tuned daily for more on the Australian pokie, gambling and casino wars.

NRL And AFL Boys And Codes Under Spotlight, by Greg Tingle - 7th March 2011
G'day punters, sports fans, legal eagles, law enforcement officials, player agents, politicians...one and all. Today Australia's ARL and NFL football codes are back under the spotlight, and its not all good news, but some positives may result from the extra attention. A star NRL player is done for assault, plus the AFL is tipped to ban agents from having a punt, and the AFL sex scandal teen speaks to 60 Minutes. Media Man and Gambling911 with the battle of the codes, on and off the field...
Police To Probe Wests Tigers Benji Marshall On Altercation In Sin City Sydney...
Benji Marshall, Wests Tigers star and the new face of the NRL, is tipped to chat to police following an alleged altercation in the Rocks, Sydney, after a kid's fundraising event.
'Our Benji', the new face of NRL, is thought to have been at the scene of a physical altercation at 3am Saturday morning at The Rocks in 'Sin City' Sydney.
Marshall, 26, had spent the night hosting Children’s Cancer Institute Australia’s (CCIA) first annual Footy Rocks.
Police released a media statement into the public domain confirming an incident involving a 26-year-old male.
Police attached to The Rocks Local Area Command are investigating an alleged assault outside a fast food restaurant in Sydney’s CBD overnight. It's believed it was McDonald's, but the meal (or the chat) was not happy!
About 3.20am Saturday 5 March, a verbal altercation allegedly occurred between a 24-year-old man and a 26-year-old man in George Street, near the intersection with Bridge Street.
The 26-year-old bloke and another bloke allegedly assaulted the 24-year-old before clearing the area.
The 24-year-old sustained a small cut on the face and reported the alleged incident to The Rocks Police Station.
An probe is underway into the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, and police are hoping to speak with a 26-year-old man who may be able to assist with inquiries.
The event comes just three days after Marshall confidently declared he "wants to be the player that kids want to be when they grow up".
This follows a string of negative headlines on both the NRL and AFL. The AFL has copped the most heat lately from betting scandals in addition to the drink-driving charge against reigning Dally M medallist Todd Carney.
It was 2 years back when Manly's Brett Stewart was a key figure in the NRL's marketing campaign before he caused the game's flagship television commercial to be re-edited when he was banned after an alcohol-fuelled evening and charged with sexual assault ahead of the 2009 season. Stewart was eventually cleared of the charge, but the damage was done.
Marshall had been doing his best to avoid negative off field experiences. In fact, he was the chosen one to launch the 2011 season in the NRL's heartland of western Sydney.
"After the past couple of years it was sort of a curse they reckon. It's not going to change what I do away from the game or what I do in the game. I want to be the player that kids want to be when they grow up. I've had a pretty clean image and I want to keep it that way. I'm pretty wary of where I am and what I do to make sure I keep the same image because I know image goes a long way in life and at the end of my career I want to still have that image."
Wests Tigers have already undertaken to make a full report to the NRL.
"It is always important that the club is given the opportunity to examine the facts and report to the NRL before we determine whether there is a need for intervention on our part,” NRL Chief Executive David Gallop said.
"This will also no doubt depend on some of the issues being investigated by police. Clearly it is in everyone’s interests to determine the matter as soon as possible."
AFL To Ban Player Agents From Having A Punt?...
The AFL has ruled out banning accredited media from gambling on games, but it is in continuing discussions on whether player agents should be allowed to bet on the game.
But it is in continuing discussions on whether player agents should be allowed to bet on the sport.
AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said that as a result of the NRL betting scandal that saw Canterbury prop Ryan Tandy, player manager Sam Ayoub and former player John Elias charged by NSW police last week, the AFL was considering adding agents to the list of people who are banned from betting on matches.
"We are talking to the Players' Association accreditation board about that," Anderson said.
While it has been suggested that the AFL, which punished several league and club officials for minor breaches last year, would also include accredited media in the ban, Anderson denied that was the case.
AFL St Kilda Teenager Lied She Was Pregnant; Network Nine's 60 Minutes Runs Story...
The young lady at the centre of the St Kilda nude photo scandal has admitted she lied about being pregnant to AFL footballer Sam Gilbert.
She told 60 Minutes last night: "I was a stupid immature little teenager … (But) I don't think I owe anyone an apology other than Sam."
The scandal involving the girl, 17, has swallowed AFL player manager Ricky Nixon, who is under investigation by the AFL Players Association for his alleged sexual involvement with the teenager.
Nixon returned to Melbourne last night following a two-week trip to Ireland and Britain and vehemently denied television news reports that he was planning to stand down from his role this week, saying he would be at his Flying Start office today.
He also unequivocally rejected suggestions that he was scheduled to check into a clinic to help resolve his personal issues.
Channel Nine news had reported that he would stand down as a player manager and check into a clinic by the end of the week. "The reports (on the Nine Network) are not true," Nixon told Fairfax Media. "Apparently I'm running for prime minister as well."
The teen showed Channel Nine text messages and emails from Nixon in which he told her what she should say to the press if she wanted their relationship to continue, warning that if she didn't 100 of his associates would want revenge on her for the rest of her life.
He told her she should tell the media: "I want to put on the record that there was no sex and no drug-taking."
The network named the schoolgirl and showed her image on 60 Minutes last night.
A media lawyer, who asked to remain anonymous, said last night the action appeared to contravene a court suppression order.
Nine executive producer Hamish Thomson said: "Nine denies that it contravened any laws."
Fairfax's Sunday Age yesterday reported claims that more than 80 Victoria Police officers had looked at the girl's case file on the LEAP database.
The Office of Police Integrity confirmed there was an investigation into alleged inappropriate use of the database.
"We are hopeful that the spotlight on the games, players, agents and officials may have the effect of cleaning up the sport", a Media Man staffer said.
