WWE Network: CFO reveals why WWE is pushing forward with Network plans...

WWE CFO George Barrios talked in-depth about why WWE decided to push forward with WWE Network plans during a presentation at the 40th Annual UBS Global Media conference in New York this week.

"We just believe there is too much there potentially not to keep pushing at it," Barrios said after acknowledging industry resistance to some of the Network models. "The drag on earnings is painful. It's painful to investors. It's painful to us but we just believe payoff could be too large so we are going to continue to push on that."

Barrios stressed throughout the presentation that WWE believes the more content they produce, the more revenue they can generate in the long-term because "the value of content is being driven up by the proliferation of distribution outlets."

In WWE's case, distribution would include a future Network, standard TV & PPV outlets, YouTube, Hulu, WWE App, and any other way consumers can consume video content.

"Wherever the video is being monetized, we see that the real opportunity," Barrios said. "We see growth there. Very high operating margins because we create our content once and then monetize it in a variety of those different platforms and also we have the ability to mine a significant library."

One of the library-related initiatives is creating new TV shows based on the existing content, such as turning the Monday Night Wars into a new series updated for this decade. Barrios revealed that the show is currently in production and will examine 2000-2001 leading up to WWE buying out WCW to "win the war."

"So we have done a good job but really we have only skimmed that library. So as we started thinking about best ways to monetize and there is different ones, there is big output deals you could sign is one example, the network, just we kept coming back to that as being the biggest bang for the buck. Now we don’t view the network as a catalog network. There will be powerful, compelling exclusive original content that will be the core because otherwise people aren’t going to either watch it in the numbers you want or pay for it if you go that model.

But we can wrap around some very fresh, compelling content that’s created from our 100,000 hour library. So for example, one of the shows that’s in production right now and it's tested really, really well in our focus group is the Monday Night Wars. It will be an episodic series, number of episodes be determined but somewhere between 10 to 15 episodes that looks at the year 2000 and 2001 battle between Ted Turner and Vince McMahon when they were on competing networks fighting for audience.

So there are some really cool things going on in the ring but there are some really interesting things going on outside the ring that would appeal to a slightly different audience and the lapse fan I talked about before, one of the kernels that we found was that the lapse fan really would be into reliving that a little bit. Especially parents with their kids on what to be able to talk to their kids about things that they were seeing and watching and so on.

So we think the network allows you to take thousand hours of the program which is a lot but it gives us that opportunity to own our content and also maximize significant amount of it. So that’s where that came from. It’s the ability mine that catalog in a fresh new way and also put new content out there."

Wrestling Legend Jake "The Snake" Roberts's talks life in DDP "Accountability Crib?...

Newsday's Josh Stewart filed a report on following around Jake Roberts for 24 hours as Roberts attempts to get in-shape and clean up his life inside the "Accountability Crib" hosted by Diamond Dallas Page. The following are five new things learned about Roberts and the house based on Stewart's report.

Former WCW wrestler Glacier is also staying at the house attempting to become a instructor for DDP's "DDP Yoga" program. A frequent visitor is former WWE wrestler Sinn Bodhi, who was also Roberts's personal babysitter during a recent booking in Las Vegas. “I’m in Vegas drinking water,” Roberts quipped recalling his night inside a Vegas club. “I’ve ruined my life."

Filmmaker Steve Yu, who is documenting Roberts's attempt at recovery, estimates the full recovery process will take one year.

Roberts has bone spurs in his left shoulder that will eventually require surgery. Currently, the injury slows him down during his daily DDP Yoga exercises.

Roberts received a phone call from one of his old drug dealers on Thanksgiving Day. "I told him the bad news,” Roberts said of trying to clean up. “Well, the good news for me.”

-- Roberts is on speaking terms with three of his eight children. After having a conversation with them about his recovery on Thanksgiving, Roberts noted, "They told me how proud they were of me" before pausing to compose himself. http://www.newsday.com/24-hours-in-diamond-dallas-page-s-accountability-crib-with-jake-the-snake-roberts-1.4289421

2013 WWE Studios movie releases; Wrestling and movie connection; Dwayne Johnson thoughts...

WWE Studios has released the full line-up of their 2013 movie releases, some of which will be theatrical releases and others will be straight-to-DVD.

If the last few years of WWE Studios flicks are anything to go by, it will be a mixed bag, but the good news is that there should be one or two gems and pleasant surprises in there... not just B and C grade stuff. Wrestling fans... you got to wonder what it would take for 'The Rock' to sign up to Vince McMahon's WWE Studios - even for 1 or 2 films. Maybe the answer is more money than McMahon is currently willing to offer 'The Great One'. Speaking of The Rock, be sure to check out 'The Hero' when it finally hits television. Time will tell if it finally makes it to Rupert Murdoch influenced Foxtel, but it stands to reason if the public let Foxtel know they want more of 'The Rock', it may help achieve the positive result that fans are looking for.

The following is the 2013 WWE Studios movie schedule:

- "No One Lives" (Jan. 2013): WWE star in supporting role is Brodus Clay. - "Dead Man Down": WWE star in supporting role is Wade Barrett. - "Marine 3: Homefront": WWE star in the leading role is The Miz. - "12 Rounds 2: Reloaded": WWE star in the leading role is Randy Orton. - "The Hive": WWE star in a supporting role is David Otunga, plus Halle Berry in a leading role. - "Leprechaun: Origins": WWE star in the leading role is Hornswoggle. - 2014: Scooby-Doo themed movie when "Scooby Do and the Gang go to WrestleMania."

Keep checking the WWE Studios Facebook and Media Man network www.mediamanint.com for updates.

TNA Wrestling Signs Deal To Release Lottery Cards...

TNA Wrestling has signed a contract with MDI Entertainment to offer lottery cards featuring the wrestling organization's biggest stars. The following press release was issued Tuesday.

MDI Secures IMPACT WRESTLING Superstars and Experiential Prizes for Exciting New Instant Games

MDI Entertainment, LLC, a subsidiary of Scientific Games Corporation, has signed an agreement with TNA Entertainment, LLC, dba IMPACT WRESTLING, to offer lotteries branded instant games featuring some of the biggest names and most recognizable imagery in professional wrestling today.

The agreement makes the names and likenesses of more than a dozen wrestling superstars, as well as the logos, marks and artwork of IMPACT WRESTLING, available to lotteries worldwide.

Stars like Hulk Hogan, Kurt Angle, Sting, Jeff Hardy, Matt Morgan and Bobby Roode are included, and can be used on instant tickets and promotional materials, as well as in television and radio commercials. They also are available for personal appearances and public service announcements to promote the good causes lottery games support.

"We are extremely pleased to have secured this license, and to be able to give lotteries so many noteworthy options to promote games associated with it," said Steve Saferin, President, Properties Group and Chief Creative Officer for Scientific Games.

"In addition to providing the biggest names in wrestling today, IMPACT WRESTLING is offering extraordinary marketing support and incredible prize opportunities. This gives lotteries a chance to reach and inspire wrestling fans – including the often elusive 18-34 age group – in very powerful ways."

IMPACT WRESTLING President Dixie Carter stated, "Working with MDI provides a new marketing platform for IMPACT WRESTLING to connect with our fans through the state lottery programs. Our fans avidly invest in our superstars as they appear on SPIKE TV every Thursday and travel the country on the IMPACT WRESTLING LIVE WORLD TOUR."

IMPACT WRESTLING will work with MDI and lotteries to create 2nd Chance prizes that can include merchandise and trips where winners will be treated to a live taping of the IMPACT WRESTLING television show, a backstage tour and a chance to meet wrestling talent. "IMPACT WRESTLING" is a weekly, two-hour show appearing during prime time on SPIKE TV.

A "Contract-for-a-Day" prize also can be created, in which the winner will be given the trip, plus an on-camera cameo role to be included in an IMPACT WRESTLING pay-per-view live show.

Triple H Doesn't Want Sting To Re-Sign With TNA...

Triple H is apparently among many that are hoping that Sting might pass on renewing with TNA when his contract expires at the end of the year. According to a source, WWE would like to present Sting with a multi-faceted licensing deal which would include incorporating him into their Mattel deal and home videos. It would also likely include an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Signing Sting to a deal is apparently not a high priority for Vince McMahon, whereas Triple H is said to hold Sting in high regard.

Triple H has also been pursuing wrestling legend Bruno Sammartino for the WWE Hall of Fame, but its unclear at this point if Bruno is going to sign on this year, or any other.

'Wolverine' Actor Hugh Jackman Honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame...

His hard work in the movie industry for years paid off. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce made an announcement on Friday that Australian actor Hugh Jackman will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"Fans from around the world have been consistently asking when this star will be dedicated. We are happy to say that now is the time. Hugh is one of the world's most popular actors and we are excited that he is joining our Walk of Fame family," Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame producer, stated.

In 2000, the 44-year-old actor debuted on the US big screen as mutant Wolverine in film director Bryan Singer's "X-Men" movie. Afterwards, Hugh Jackman kept reprising the role of this famous character in the succeeding "X-Men" films.

Jackman has been busy filming the upcoming James Mangold's "The Wolverine" in Sydney. The actor is currently in talks to reappear once again with director Bryan Singer in "X-Men: Days of Future Past." However, Hugh Jackman declared that he has not yet officially signed on or read the movie script.

Aside from the successful "X-Men" films under his belt, the Tony Award-winning actor also has other movie projects like "Rise of The Guardians" where Jackman provided his voice to the Easter Bunny character and the upcoming "Les Miserables" with actor Russell Crowe that will officially hit Australian cinemas on December 26.

Meanwhile, Hugh Jackman has already marked his hand and footprints outside of the Grauman's Chinese Theatre back in 2009 next to famous Hollywood celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable and Bing Crosby. The area is approximately 20 meters far from where Hugh Jackman's star will be placed on the scheduled December 13 ceremony.

Hugh Jackman: Wolverine promoting own non-profit coffee brand...

Actor Hugh Jackman is following the lead of movie star Paul Newman. Not only is he super talented and a hunk, his heart is in the right place when it comes to doing good for charity and social causes. Aside from starring in the new cinematic exploration of "Les Miserables", Jackman's latest venture is selling coffee. Yes, its been in the works over over a year we understand. Wolverine is promoting Java... and apparently many of those lucky folks who had a chance to taste test the product on Dec. 2 thought his brand was tasty.

The Hollywood movie star has an upstart company entitled Laughing Man Coffee & Tea. His commitment and dedication to the brand promotion is no laughing matter though. Jackman started the company with one clear idea in mind - to donate all the sales proceeds to charity. Following in the footsteps of Paul Newman's food line, he hopes to use java sales to give back to the community.

Hugh Jackman is a green celebrity. The famous humanitarian has launched his own product line. He will be selling coffee and tea. All the proceeds go to charity.

Making a smart marketing choise, the actor set up a coffee bar near where reporters were apparently staying in a hospitality suite waiting to share news about the Oscars nominations the first weekend of Dec. Giving them taste tests of his new coffee seemed to be his pleasure - but then again, who would have the guts to tell Wolverine they did not like the taste of his non-profit hot and cold beverages?

Jackman also brought free samples of his new brew to the New York set of the movie "Noah" back in Nov. The biblical flick he's working on with actor Russell Crowe. Crowe praised the "Flat White" espresso blend as the best cup of coffee he'd had in hand since visiting his native Australian home.

Can't wait till Jackman opens up a coffee shop or two here in Sydney, Australia.

Hugh Jackman Confirms Wolverine Talks for Days of Future Past...

Not that there was any doubt, but X-Men star Hugh Jackman has confirmed that he’s in talks with Bryan Singer to return as Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past. During an interview with Access Hollywood promoting Les Miserables, he touched briefly on the story that Russell Crowe had turned down Wolverine and then recommended Jackman to Singer; after that, the conversation spiraled into his thoughts on the future of Wolverine. Besides joking that he was tired of three claws and needed to add some more, Jackman confirmed rumors that he’s in talks for the next film.

“I have been talking to Bryan about doing something in [X-Men: Days of Future Past],” the actor told Access Hollywood.

Lucha VaVOOM to headline the ‘El Jimador Mexican Wrestling Bar' At Big Day Out 2013

LUCHA VaVOOM TO HEADLINE THE ‘EL JIMADOR MEXICAN WRESTLING BAR’ AT BIG DAY OUT 2013...

Profiles

Wrestling Big Day Out Mexico Lucha Libre Entertainment Burlesque Comedy Events Sydney Australia

LUCHA VAVOOM HEADED TO BIG DAY OUT 2013...

Direct from the US, the Lucha VaVOOM troupe will be putting on a show quite unlike any other at BIG DAY OUT 2013. Lucha VaVOOM is non-stop, action-packed surrealism where Mexican masked wrestlers perform breathtaking acrobatic feats in a fast-paced, fun-filled, character-driven style. Known for their far-out flamboyance, its quick, exhibition-style, one-fall Lucha Libre matches designed for maximum enjoyment and action.

The ultimate distraction, Lucha VaVOOM like a little sexo with their violencia; in between matches the finest handpicked burlesque acts from around the world wow the crowds with their unique striptease skills including raucous aerial acts, pogo-stick peelers and hula-hoop hotties. Their insane antics have Jack Black proclaiming “Lucha VaVOOM is the shit!” and it’s easy to see why.

Celebrating their tenth anniversary, Lucha VaVOOM have only got crazier over time. Rooted in history, they draw inspiration from the bizarre world of sixties Mexican Lucha Cinema. The troupe has been considered one of the most outrageous shows on earth having performed sold-out shows all around the world, they have taken to the stage alongside the likes of legends such as Jon Stewart and Dave Chappelle, as well as appearances on Jimmy Kimmel, Attack of the Show, Carson Daly and A Current Affair. Los Angeles Times said the Lucha VaVOOM show “has the pacing of a prison break” and BIG DAY OUT 2013 punters are set for something spectacular with the crew perform in a dedicated area. Here’s what the press have had to say:

“Lucha VaVOOM has a big future.” TIME MAGAZINE

“… It’s enough to make even the most jaded Hollywood insider jump up and yell ‘Smackdown.” ROLLING STONE

“…a raucous and irreverent extravaganza of burlesque, comedy and classic Mexican luchadore wrestling.” THE HUFFINGTON POST.

“Lucha VaVoom is the most exciting, bonkers show I’ve seen in ages.” THE FACE (UK)

“A madcap mix of Mexican wrestling, comedy, and vintage burlesque. I love, love, love it.” VANITY FAIR

“…a weird mix of cabaret, burlesque, Mexican Luchador wrestling with a live DJ, crowd interaction and commentary…depending on the night, people like Drew Carey turn up to do commentary for it. It is the most bizarre experience. The entire audience is dressed up and it’s like Halloween, everyone is in some weird costume. It was the greatest night of entertainment I have probably seen in my entire life.” ROVE MCMANUS

Lucha VaVOOM will be appearing at the El Jimador Mexican Wrestling Bar at all 2013 Big Day Out dates.

Mexican Masked Wrestling + Burlesque + Comedy = Lucha VaVOOM...

Lucha VaVOOM is a non-stop, action-packed scream-a-thon, where Mexican Masked wrestlers flip and fly, performing breathtaking acrobatic feats while battling evil luchadores. Historically speaking, Lucha VaVOOM brings the bizarre world of 60’s Mexican Lucha Cinema to life. Brave, masked wrestling crime fighters save the world from evil brains, vampires, the Bermuda Triangle etc; always with an obligatory stop at the local go-go club.

In-between matches, the finest, handpicked burlesque acts from around the world astound; at Lucha VaVOOM, we like a little sexo with our violencia. Raucous aerial acts, Pogo-stick peelers, hula-hoop hotties; we’ve got it all!

But wait there’s more! Our color commentary is handled by comedians Tom Kenny, Dana Gould and Blaine Capatch. Other guest commentators include Fred Armisen, Brian Poussein, Patton Oswalt, Greg Proops, Jeffrey Ross and Bobcat Goldthwait. Even Jack Black sat in, proclaiming “Lucha VaVOOM is the sh*t!

It all began in August 2003 as a one off event. The overwhelming crowd response convinced Rita & Liz to do it again, and as soon as possible.

Ever since, Lucha VaVOOM has played at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles three times a year -- Valentines Day, Mid-summer, and Halloween. From there, Lucha brought it’s circus to Toronto, where they did two nights at the Koolhaus and made every newspaper and TV news program, including Much Music.

In 2005, Lucha VaVOOM was asked to be a part of the first HBO Las Vegas Comedy Festival, where they performed alongside Jon Stewart, Lewis Black and Dave Chapelle. That same year they performed at the famous Sony E3 party at Dodger Stadium, where they took the spotlight away from the Pussycat Dolls.

Lucha VaVOOM has gone on to perform in Chicago, San Francisco and Amsterdam, with more cities on the way.

They’ve also appeared on Jimmy Kimmel, CBS National News, G4's Attack of the Show, Channel X in Britain and A Current Affair just to name a few.

Human Statue Bodyart was once again called upon by an ultra successful theatrical entertainment company, in collaboration with a major Australian dining destination, to help make them stand out from the pack and create a magical evening's entertainment, and once again Human Statue delivered with spades (and fairy statues).

Artists Eva Rinaldi, Vince Cantali and Andrew made up the two models, Phylicia and Daniel, who became unrecognisable once they were fully made out as fairies.

The fairies complimented the Christmas elves and the overall complete entertainment package which was the 'Mid Summer Nights' Dream', South American style, one the first night of Summer in Australia, and what a hot night of entertainment it was. Promo...

About Chimmichurri...

It’s quite simple. Chimmichurri is about sharing great food and drink with friends.

This may or may not include dancing on tables, joyful gluttony, excessive indulgence and just plain old good times. It's spacious kitchen is staffed by some of the best! chef's in Sydney.

When asked about the cuisine and style of this venture the chefs' were unable to define it or give it a name. They did comment that a portion of the menu is a result of the South American heritage and a consequence of a culture dominated by BBQ style cooking using natural wood fire and charcoal.

So how do they get it so right and so good? Easy, they like to keep things simple in the kitchen!!! Although the menu may appear complex and lengthy, the secrets are in the marinades. Basic simple but tasty natural ingredients. Sauces should mainly be used to experience new flavours and textures, not to better flavour meat and that is why Chimmichurri has created it's own line of marinades and sauces (find them on the menu) to complement the Churrasco or your favourite steak or burger!

Recommendations? The Salt & Pepper Prawns served by the Kilo, the 8 hour slow cooked Lamb, the burger 750 (3 paddies of 250 gram Australian pure beef) and ribs, ribs, ribs - enjoy them sweet, basted in Chimmi's own BBQ sauce [up to 1.5Kg] or slow cooked to perfection over the in-ground wood fire BBQ Pit 'Assado style'. And of course the 20 plus skewered varieties of meat, poultry and seafood 'all you can eat' Brazilian BBQ Churrasco!

Just like the eponymous South American marinade it's named after, Chimmichurri promises a bit of spice and a lot of flavour to the dining experience. The name is fun and quirky, definitely not something you're going to forget in a hurry, just like the cocktail trolley that wanders through the tables in the evening offering you a choice of exotic Caipiroskas, Caipirinhas and Mojitos.... See you there!

Chris Hemsworth Marvels At 'Avengers' Success...

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth spoke with our friends at MTV News after a long day of work in London shooting "Thor: The Dark World." The Aussie chatted "Avengers," and talked Thor, and more.

MTV: You had another hell of a year, Chris. Congratulations. "Snow White and the Huntsman," "Red Dawn" and, of course "The Avengers." We at MTV News are very much thankful for how well that film turned out.

Chris Hemsworth: Thank you and thanks to all the fans who supported us.

MTV: Were you confident during the making of the movie that it was going to turn out as well as it did?

Hemsworth: No! There was a lot of uncertainty, because there is no sure formula to it. This was so big and there were so many elements and so much green screen. It was hard to grasp exactly what this was and what it was going to be. I remember [Robert] Downey [Jr.] and I were talking during the shoot going, "I don't know how this going to turn out." And then at the premiere when it was being so well-received, we were like, " Oh my God, we pulled it off! Who would have thought ... " You just never know.

MTV: Are there any films you are particularly thankful for this year?

Hemsworth: I hadn't read the "Hunger Games" book but was blown away by the film. "Dark Knight Rises"; Chris Nolan's a genius. That's someone I would love to get another opportunity to work with. Have you seen "Rust & Bone"?

MTV: Yes. Marion Cotillard is amazing in it.

Hemsworth: Oh my God. I think it's one of my favorite movies ever. I was just blown away by that film. I loved the truth and honesty about it. It was raw.

MTV: How is "Thor" going this time around?

Hemsworth: We have six weeks to go to shoot. This is the trickiest bit, because you can go, "Oh, yeah, we're past the halfway mark!" which isn't a good idea, because you're not finished yet. You sort of get that second wind about now or you hope to and push on through. But it's been great. The look of the film is a lot bigger than what we did even previously. The first one worked and people loved it, but this is with a different director and just has a totally different feel. There's a definite "Game of Thrones" vibe thanks to [director] Alan [Taylor].

MTV: Have the relationships between Thor and Jane and Loki progressed significantly?

Hemsworth: Definitely. For Thor and Jane, there are some unanswered questions now, since obviously he didn't stop in and catch up with her in "Avengers." Thor might have some explaining to do in this one.

MTV: I hadn't thought of that. Is Jane bitter that her boyfriend didn't bother to say hi during all that craziness?

Hemsworth: [Laughs.] I know, right? Where the hell have you been? There's some fun to be had with that. And with Loki, we get down to the major bones of our conflict with everything that's come from "Thor" to "Avengers" to now.

MTV: Your next project is "Robopocalypse" with Steven Spielberg. I'd imagine that's hugely exciting for you.

Hemsworth: Yeah! No one does sci-fi better than him. It was a no-brainer. And then I read the script and was even more excited if that's possible.

MTV: Have you heard anything about a "Snow White" sequel or spin-off lately?

Hemsworth: Honestly, I've heard the same things you've heard. I think if there's an appetite for the sequel, they'll get one going, but there's nothing official yet. I had a great time making the last one, so who knows?

MTV: With all of these franchises, do you have room for one more? "Star Wars" is gearing up again!

Hemsworth: Oh man, I love those films. That's the sort of bread and butter of my film experience as a kid. I would love to work on something like that. I also loved "Lord of the Rings." I would have loved to have done something in that world.

‘Thor: The Dark World’ Villains May Have Been Revealed...

A stuntman working on the film told IReviewToo, via ComingSoon..."The other day for example, this is quite random but I was working on Thor 2. I had a load of stunt guys in and the director came in and he said ‘Look, we want you all to be elves,’ and I was like ‘What the hell is an elf anyway?’ and he said ‘I want you all to walk around like these supernatural animals,’ honestly it was the most ridiculous thing ever but you just have to not be self aware and get on with it."

'Iron Man 3' is 'not a serious movie', says producer But it will 'seriously dig' into the character of Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr...

Iron Man 3 began shooting in North Carolina over the summer. It will be Robert Downey Jr's fourth outing as Tony Stark, a billionaire inventor who creates a powered suit of armour and turns himself into a superhero. He previously played Stark in 2008's Iron Man, 2010's Iron Man 2 and this year's The Avengers.

Last month (October 2012), the first Iron Man 3 trailer was unveiled. After watching it, fans began speculating that the new movie could be darker and less comic than its predecessors.

However, new comments from franchise producer Kevin Feige seem to dismiss these suggestions. Feige told The West Australian: "It's not a serious movie, but we seriously dig into exploring more of Tony. The trick is just trying to make great movies. We try to make them all great, all different and all fresh. What you'll see in Iron Man 3 is some very unique directions that were taken."

Meanwhile, director Shane Black revealed that Iron Man 3 will not try to compete with The Avengers in terms of scale. He explained: "We're not aiming for bigger, necessarily. We're aiming for different and fresh and new. It's all about capturing that lightning-in-a-bottle feel, about trying to get as much into this as we can. We're looking to get a tonne of thrills into a short space, to make a nice little stew for you."

Iron Man 3 is scheduled for release next May (2013). It also stars Ben Kingsley as Stark's nemesis, The Mandarin, and Guy Pearce as another villain. Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle are both reprising their roles from previous Iron Man movies, but Scarlett Johansson, who appeared as Black Widow in Iron Man 2, is not returning this time.

Hugh Jackman to get star on Hollywood Walk of Fame...

Jackman, everyones favorite Wolverine, has about 2 weeks until he puts his claws into the Hollywood Hall of Fame.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced on Friday the Australian actor will be honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

"Fans from around the world have been consistently asking when this star will be dedicated," Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez said.

"We are happy to say that now is the time. Hugh is one of the world's most popular actors and we are excited that he is joining our Walk of Fame family."

The 44-year-old is a Tony Award winner and a big tip to score an Oscar nomination for his performance opposite Russell Crowe in the new adaptation of the stage musical Les Miserables.

However, Jackman already has some Hollywood Boulevard real estate.

In 2009, about 20 metres away from where his star will be laid, Jackman got stuck into wet concrete outside the famed Grauman's Chinese Theatre, leaving hand and footprints alongside the likes of Marilyn Monroe, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable and Bing Crosby.

Jackman has built up a huge following for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, including the spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Jackman has just wrapped the shooting for another chapter, The Wolverine, in Sydney. The star ceremony will take place on December 13.

‘King Kong’ Producer Eyeing Spider-Man’s Broadway Lair...

Will King Kong be fighting Spider-Man for Broadway’s Foxwoods Theater in the near future?

The producer of the big-budget Australian musical “King Kong,” which is scheduled to open in Melbourne in June, is eyeing the Foxwoods Theater – a cavernous venue that has the most seats of any Broadway house – as the ideal place to land the show in New York, perhaps as early as 2014, according to three theater producers familiar with discussions about a Broadway outing for “King Kong.”

Only a handful of Broadway theaters are big enough to accommodate the large-scale “King Kong,” which has a reported budget of more than $30 million, not to mention the one-ton, 20-foot tall silverback Kong. And the Foxwoods is regarded as the best equipped given its enormous backstage space and state-of-the-art technology now being used for its current tenant, the $75 million musical “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.”

“King Kong” would be the biggest spectacle – and probably the biggest budget – on Broadway since “Spider-Man.” Yet the producers of “Spider-Man” said in an interview this week that they have no plans to vacate the Foxwoods anytime soon.

The crux of the matter is ticket sales for “Spider-Man.” The show opened in June 2011 to negative reviews but has since became a favorite show of many children and families, and set the record for the highest weekly gross ever on Broadway — $2.94 million – between last Christmas and New Year’s. But the box office for “Spider-Man” has cooled a bit recently: Thanksgiving week was down 17 percent from the comparable week in 2011.

“Spider-Man” is still regularly among the top 5 on Broadway, grossing about $1.5 million a week on average, yet its profit margin is relatively modest because the weekly running costs of the elaborate production are so high, at more than $1 million a week.

The general manager of the Foxwoods Theater, Erich Jungwirth, said in an interview this week that he had been contacted by the “King Kong” producer, Carmen Pavlovic of the company Global Creatures, and discussed the show and the possibility of a booking in the Foxwoods. Mr. Jungwirth said that while he thought much of the “King Kong” designs and artistry were “beautiful,” and that its giant gorilla puppetry could be “a fascinating fit” in the Foxwoods, the theater was committed to “Spider-Man.” He added that he was not concerned about softening ticket sales for the show.

“I’m more bullish than some others about ‘Spider-Man’ and think it could run on Broadway for more than just a couple of more years,” Mr. Jungwirth said. “If ‘King Kong’ is a success in Australia in mid-2013, it’s not crazy to think that it will show up on Broadway sometime in 2014, and I don’t see the Foxwoods being available in 2014.” (full story at The New York Times: ArtsBeat)

Whedon to reunite with his Avengers for sequel...

Joss Whedon will return to write and direct a sequel to The Avengers, Bob Iger, the chief executive of the Walt Disney, has announced.

The superhero movie, made by Disney's Marvel Entertainment subsidiary, is one of the biggest hits in modern Hollywood history, with global ticket sales in excess of $US1.46 billion.

The film's ticket sales of $US616.8 million in the US make it the third-highest-grossing film of all time, trailing just Avatar and Titanic in non-inflation-adjusted dollars.

Iger made the announcement in a conference call with analysts to discuss the media company's third-quarter earnings, which were up 24 per cent thanks in part to theme park results and Avengers income.

He also said Whedon is developing a Marvel-themed, live-action television series for US network ABC.

The Avengers sequel has not yet been dated, but Disney is already set to release two movies from Marvel Entertainment in 2014, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy, meaning the next Avengers film will likely come out in 2015. LA TIMES

Hugh Jackman In Talks For ‘X Men: Days Of Future Past’...

Hugh Jackman has a big year in store with Oscar front-runner Les Miserables and his sixth appearance as Logan in The Wolverine. But is six times enough? Certainly not, the actor is currently in talks to reprise his most famous role for a seventh time in Fox’s X Men: Days OF Future Past. Those who caught First Class will have noticed Jackman’s cameo where he politely declined joining the team. How big his role is this time is not clear, but the timing of the announcement suggests it will be considerably larger.

Days Of Future Past is ostensibly the sequel to First Class, but with a storyline that weaves between the present and the future it promises to include many of the original cast as well, as evidenced by the earlier news that Sirs Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart will also be returning as Magneto and Charles Xavier respectively.

The 1981 comic story dealt with a dystopian alternative future in which mutants are incarcerated in internment camps. An older Kitty Pryde transfers her mind into her younger, present-day self, who brings the X-Men to prevent a fatal moment in history which triggers anti-mutant hysteria.

The movie is set for release in July 2014 and will be directed by series veteran Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-Men 2, Superman Returns). Returning cast include Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult.
